The Big Switch

I've done it.

I've been converted.

I'm making the big switch.

CLOTH DIAPERING!

Yup. You read that correctly. We (that is to say, I) are now cloth diapering Little Bear. And Jasper when he gets here.

I got Bear's first 4 cloth diapers in the mail on Friday. I ordered them from GoGreen Diapers. I decided to go with the fuzzy cloth pocket diapers because 1: they are cheap ($10 for 1!) and 2: I have heard that they work just as well (Thanks, Amanda!!) as the more expensive ones.
Bear modeling his giraffe print cloth diaper.
Bear's been in his cloth diapers all day today, and they are working wonderfully so far. I'm a little iffy on keeping him in them when he goes down for the night, so he's going to still be using disposables every now and then.

I also decided that, since I'm making the effort, I may as well make some cloth wipes as well.

Doing that is super simple. I was going through Bear's old receiving blankets and found 4 or 5 that were covered in spit up stains. I took those, cut them down to fit into the wipe case, then made the solution.

I used about 1/4 cup each of baby oil and Burt's Bees Baby Wash and gently mixed that with 1 1/4 cups of warm water. I poured it over the wipes and voila! Washable baby wipes.

I'm super excited (and super late) to be joining the cloth diapering community. But I figured with bringing a new baby into our family, saving some money would be awesome, and it's great for the environment. :]

[For The Baby] The Beginning of...

I've started something! Yay!

I found out the awesome news on Friday. Today (Sunday) I started my very first baby-related project.
I'm going to make the her (positive thinking :]) a blanket!

I'm going to use four colors: turquoise, red, grey, sage.

The squares are going to all look like this one. Simple, basic. I'll be making (at least) one of these square a week in any combo of two of the four aforementioned colors. :]

On a slightly different note, I've had a request by a friend to do a tutorial for granny squares. I'll do it (I promise!), but I was just wondering if anyone else besides Miss Bee is interested?

Let me know!

Ciao!

It’s Been A While…

Hi howdy hey!

Yup. I’m alive. Shocking, huh?

In the last three weeks, I have packed up most of our stuff, drove 2,400 miles in three days, and have settled down with Bear at my mom’s house in California while the husband finishes up his last two weeks of training.

I’m so tired. I miss my bed. I miss my stuff…I only have enough clothes to last for a week and a half (Tay and I thought we would be living together by now, not what’s happening), and I really just don’t like California.

The perks of living in 29: a gazillion antique, thrift and vintage shops. I’m so excited. I can’t wait to start scouring the clothing racks for awesome finds. Yep.

I turned 21. It’s not really that big of a deal, since neither Taylor or I drink.

Bear has learned how to roll over, and he can crawl…backwards. He popped out two new teeth yesterday (at the same time), except they are not the ones I was expecting. He now has his two bottom front teeth and his top eye teeth. Odd.

I can’t wait to find out when we get base housing. We should find out within a week, and then be moved in a week after that. I’m not quite counting on that timeline, since the Corps has a habit of messing our plans up, but it’s all I have to hold on to: in these next two weeks, I should hopefully get a house and a husband.

When that happens, I can finally start crafting again. I miss it. I’m so…bored. It’s sad…

Anyone who lives in or near 29 should tell me of any…entertaining things that I, as a Marine housewife, can do.

Valentined!

Okay, I know this is WAY late, but I just wanted to share with y’all what I did for Valentine’s Day.

Yup. I took a bunch of pictures of Little Bear and went shopping.

When I got home, I checked the mail. Wanna know what I got? Oh well, I’m gonna show you anyway. :]

vdaycards

Yeah, it’s from Miss Bee. She said I was her BFF. True story (be jealous).

The next morning, as I was bringing Little Bear downstairs to eat, I saw a GINORMOUS box on our front porch. I opened the door, brought it in and opened it.

A 4-foot teddy bear from my Marine. I named him Dean.

So, let’s recap. This is the first Valentine’s Day that hasn’t completely sucked, for a number of reasons (which I’m going to share):

  • I actually have someone to be my Valentine (even if he is 3,000 miles away).
  • I got a giant teddy bear.
  • I was not vomiting (last Valentine’s Day, I was down with morning sickness).
  • I got a Valentine’s Day card in the mail.

How was your Valentine’s Day?

Ciao for now!

Hello, Ingrid Moose

This is a very special outfit post because it has not just one…not even two…but THREE whole outfits.

Cuz I decided I was gonna take some pretty pictures…

So, I woke up, took a bath and got on a different “pair” of jammies to do some baking. Gotta be comfy when there is a chance you may end up in the ER with third degree burns. :]

Yeah, I know they don’t match…But I don’t care. I never match my jammies. Besides, they ended up covered in flour anyway. :]

While the cake was baking, I started in on my hair and makeup for the day (this was a really big deal, as my hair is usually thrown in a ponytail and VWB headband).

When I was done with my hair and makeup, I pulled on my dress and stockings and heels…

Yay for cell phone pictures. Taylor wanted me to send him a picture so he could show all his buddies at school. :/ Dunno what I think about that, but it’s now the background on his phone, so evs.

After I took this, I got Little Bear all dressed up to take some pictures down at the dock. This is what I got:

Right after I got back from doing this, I changed into my dinner making outfit:
